Okay folks here it is in all it’s glory :) DISCLAIMER: We may have moved in almost two months ago now but with three kids and a rather busy day to day life we still have more boxes than we wish to admit that are unpacked…and yes…I have not put up one single decoration yet!! I know I’m terrible, right?!
Anyway…we bought our home in July, had it remodeled over the summer and moved in at the end of August. I learned for myself how true it is that building a house/remodeling is a true headache. We even hired a contractor and it still felt like a lot of work! Now that we’re living in it and loving it it feels worth it.
Back story on the house: The man who lived next door had this house built for his mother who was elderly and in a wheel chair. He only had the top floor finished and she only lived three years then passed away. I was very much a “cliché” in that, as soon as we walked in this house… I knew this was the one, we’d looked for over two years and it paid off!
On to the pictures…
This is a view of the front of the house (kinda)- it has more of a side yard than a back yard but we love it. It backs to a green space (which is actually brown), and then beyond that is one of our favorite parks. The other picture is the laundry room… we didn’t do any remodeling in there so it still looks relatively the same.
The master bathroom came equipped for a person in a wheel chair…lots of space and handrails. We didn’t do much in here either besides add a new double vanity, larger mirror and take down the awkward cupboard on the right side wall. Some day we’ll make this room our “project” and make it what we want… someday.
This kitchen had low counters that you can see in the topside picture where the gal pulled up her wheelchair to eat. We had new floors put in, the bar cupboards built out further and new granite counter tops.
This is the living room, not pictured to the right of the living room was a second bedroom upstairs. However, this left us without a dining room. We had the bedroom wall and closet torn out, put new carpet and wood flooring in and made it one big great room.
We got some new furniture last week and I am in love with our new dining table! With the two leaves it can seat 12!! This is where the 2nd bedroom used to be, we put in the wood floors and the chandelier and voila…we have a dining room. The bottom picture is what the basement looked like before we did anything.
We carpeted it all, moved the backdoor entrance and put in 2 bedrooms, a study, a fabulous linen closet, a full bathroom, and one humungous family room! We use our furniture to split the family room in two sections, the TV area and the preschool area (I started a preschool this year but we’ll leave that for another post).
On the top is our “study” which we hope to build a big desk along one wall and some bookshelves…someday :) On the bottom is the kids’ bathroom.
Lucy’s room…please disregard the blankets tacked up in the windows…blinds are still on the “to do” list. The bottom is her closet… we love all the storage she has in there!
The boys room. They also have a big closet with lots of storage (there’s a bank of shelves on each side).
We are loving our new home & neighborhood, we’d love to have each of you come visit sometime to check it our for yourselves! (no joke!)
