Graham got his first shiner, and boy was it a doosey! He had spent the afternoon playing at a friends and when I picked him up the mom told he had fallen down her stairs but was off playing now. He didn’t look too bad at that point- just a little red mark and barely swollen. Over the next 3 hours it just got bigger and bigger, then he fell asleep.
I started to get worried- perhaps I wasn’t supposed to be letting him fall asleep… “what if he had a concussion?” Todd came home and I showed him, he said take picture and call the doctor (coincidentally it was at the doctor’s house where Graham had fallen- he was at work of course). He reassured me and offered to swing by and take a look. It got about the size of half a golf ball. No worries though the swelling went down and Graham said it felt good.
The next morning his eye was completely black…or purple rather…and he could only open it slightly…as you can see below it didn’t phase him too much…he was just “rolling with the punches”-so to speak (pun intended)
FYI- if you ever want random person, after random person, after random person, and on and on to ask you what happened or make some other great comment (“what’s the other guy look like? been fighting with a door knob?” etc- we heard it all!) just give your child a black eye and go to the store/library/school etc! I used to think people commented to us a ton about his red hair (which they do!) but that is NOTHING compared to how many people talk to us about this black eye! I admit it looked and still looks pretty bad…I mean I’m talking the worst black eye I’ve ever seen, especially those first few days after- “but COME ON people!!!”

Okay, seriously, that is the most heinous black eye I have ever seen! I can't believe he got that just from a fall. Geez! Reminds me of the time Maggie came to visit us in LA and she fell off this little fence at Knott's Berry Farm onto a hard floor and got the biggest goose egg ever in the middle of her forehead. Your Dad was freaking out!
Wow....now that Maggie incident had to be 30years ago....good memory...yeah Mike was WAY freaked out, I recall. Good thing he wasn't there, Graham...yikes that's horrendous...what a trouper he is...loved the lower lip photo!!
Haha! You should have heard the comments I got when I broke my foot...or rather the comments Dave got! "That'll teach her to do the dishes next time", "What did he do to you?", etc. We got the funniest comments when we were in rural Indiana at the circus!
Hyrum and Wyatt ended up with black eyes this past week (2 separate mishaps with brothers and friends). But neither one of them looked this bad! Way to go Grahm, you are one tough dude. :) You could be on a wild west movie with John Wayne with an eye like that. Either that or a really scary monster for Halloween.
