This last weekend we went camping as a family up to a campground that’s just 20 minutes away. This place was a little deceiving…the days were sunny and comfortably warm but the nights were FREEZING!!! We were not prepared for that and had to make a stop back at home for some snow hats-sweatshirts etc for the second night. Overall we had a great time cooking over the fire, listening to the Blue Mountain Fiddlers, visiting with and learning from some Oregon Trail demonstrators, enjoying nature…and, of course, mastering our hoola hooping skills! Even Todd got it going for a bit!
We recently made our own hoola hoops with the help of some good friends. They turned out great and we all love playing with them!
At first Lucy was frustrated at not being able to do it, but after some practice she is now quite the pro and can walk while hooping, and can even keep it going on her legs and ankles- “America’s Got Talent” here we come!
Being 20 minutes from home we went back down to town for a few garage sales. We picked up these fun Army and Cowboy & Indian sets- the kids loved them!
Here’s our resident “Fire Master.” Although I
may have done some complaining about the fire (it was cold!), Todd did a great job keeping our fire going when we needed it.
We did a mini talent show and Todd’s talent was throwing a marshmallow WAAAAYYYYY up in the air and then catching it in his mouth (it really is amazing if you wanna know the truth), the kids thought that was pretty cool and proceeded to try and try and try and try to do it themselves. Needless to say, they never got it…maybe next camping trip.
Graham LOVES the fire! We really have to watch this one around the camp fires this year. He really really wanted to “poke the fire like Daddy.” He found two sticks he called his “pokers” and carried them around the whole 3 days, he did a great job at listening and not doing it but it was not for the lack of asking! As we were leaving for home and Todd was putting the fire out he let Graham come over and poke it as much as he wanted…total joy!
The last night did not go so well for Graham and I, so we ended up making a bed in the van at about 2 am. The kids had fun playing in it the next day.

Fun...I want to make a hulahoop...how do you do that?
I love camping! Hate the campfire smell... You guys are fun. But YOU need to be in more pictures!!
The hula hoops look great. Good job Lucy!
Sounds like we'll have the opposite problem when we go camping in a few weeks....it's so hot here that people are telling us NOT to go camping. I guess Floridians do it in the fall/winter. It should be interesting. We definitely won't be cold!
Looks like you all had a lot of fun! I admire anyone who takes their kids camping :) We have a new tradition, Rob takes the kids and I stay home for a weekend by myself, heavenly!! LOL Would love to know how you made the hula hoops, I have two who would get a kick out of that!
