I RAN a half-marathon...and lived!

I recently took up running, not sure why I just did and I actually LOVE it! I may be chubby and not very fast but I love how it makes me feel. I signed up for the "Famous Idaho Potato Half Marathon" and started "training" in February. My goals for the race:
  • Finish the race....CHECK!
  • Run the entire 13.1 miles...CHECK!
  • Finish around 3 hours...my time was 2:32...CHECK!!!
  • (only have to shave off an hour to win it next time...)

I had told Todd that there was NO WAY I would finish in under 3 hours, so to bring the kids to the finish line about 15 minutes before 3 hours just to be sure. WELL...I did WAY better than I thought possible and when I ran across the finish line they weren't there yet :( They showed up about 3 minutes after I had finished...oops, I guess I shouldn't underestimate myself. So here I am chilling while we eat our picnic lunch after the race.

This is Carson and I with my medal and shirt. When the kids asked if I won I replied, "Yep, look I got a medal and I beat all those people behind me!" That night when I was tucking Carson into bed and giving him hugs he whispered in my ear, "I'm glad you won the race Mom. I really like your medal." So I guess according to my kiddos, I WON!

Later that afternoon we had what I call a "ghetto" barbeque. When moving to Boise we tried to get rid of as much as we could, one thing being our backyard BBQ. We figured we could live without it for a year. We almost made it to a year. I invited some of my "fan club" (they cheered me on along the race) over to play on the slip n' slide and eat burgers with us. Using our camping BBQ set up on our card table, Todd bbq'd some burgers. We have never purchased patio furniture because for the past 10 years of marriage we've been students without the money and/or moving too often...so we used our camping chairs. "Ghetto" set-up and all, we had a great time!

This has nothing to do with the rest of this post but I couldn't resist. Lucy and Carson were playing dress up yesterday and decided to get married, this was their wedding outfits :)
