Chores...

Lately the kids have been doing all sorts of chores on their own without being asked. Lucy wakes up each morning and after she eats and gets dressed she then goes thru the house and makes everyone's bed, cleans off all the bathroom counters, and puts away as many toys as she can. This is all without being asked.

This last week or so she has asked me if she can wash the windows (I was all for it and gave her a rag and some spray) help me with laundry and do some dishes. I let her do everything but the dishes. Don't get me wrong I truly HATE dishes and put them off for anything. But the idea of having her do them (I just knew they wouldn't really get clean) and the whole mess that goes along with letting her do this.

Well, after enough asking I realized I should not turn down a child that wants to be helpful. I let her help me unload the dishwasher and load it up again. Then I filled the sink with soapy water on one side and clean water on the other. Lucy and Carson took turns washing, rinsing and drying- they had a blast and have already asked to do it again, and everything amazingly got clean!

Back in Oregon we had a chore chart (which I had gone great lengths to make perfect with pictures for every chore and a spot for them to turn over this little card when each chore was completed). After moving to Boise, I just haven't gotten around to setting up any kind of chores for them...I guess it's time- I'm the one that started them on this and it really is a great thing- and even greater that the LOVE to do them! Look at Graham in the background watching them...always wishing he could join in everything they do

Graham's favorite thing is the vacuum. he is completely mesmerized by it and secretly wishes he could vacuum all by himself everyday...I wish that too buddy, soon enough :)

My kids have become very helpful around the house too. We have had chore charts, but have let that go by the wayside since school started up. They like to hear me tell Daddy what good helpers they are. Leila really likes to get me stuff. Nathan especially loves to do the dishes. I usually still run them thru the dishwasher, but he does a good job and it occupies him for quite some time. Like Graham- Kathryn is not afraid of the vacuum either.
