Slug Slime & Father's Day

They go hand in hand, right?

Well, for our family they did. We took the kids to visit their grandpa's (our dads) over the weekend and had a great time. As you may remember my parents live in the "country" and when you are there there is always plenty of mud, dirt, sticks, chicken poop, horse poop, crick water etc. etc. to make for some really filthy but happy little children. Well, this time the fellow 4 year old cousins, Carson & Hyrum, discovered SLUG SLIME! They gathered about 50 slugs into a bucket...with their hands!!!!! "Gross" does NOT do it justice!

When we found this out we told them to come in- we needed to wash that off. Todd and Seth (my brother)...the dads...took them into the bathrooms and proceeded to "wash" off the slime. BAD IDEA! We learned rather quickly slug slime absorbs water. When you run water over it, it only make is multiply into more and more and more slime, making a horrid slimy, sticky thick slime the likes you have never seen before (except maybe on Ghostbusters from "Slimer"-who remembers that?!). After these wonderful dads had tried and tried and began to laugh, freak out, and wonder how this was ever going to end...I decided to look it up on the internet... this is what I learned:

*Rub powdered soap or boraxo (we used salt, ajax, & an SOS pad) all over the hands, roll the slime like you would trying to get rubber cement off your hands and pick it off your hands and throw away.

*Pour cheap white vinegar on your hands and rinse (we tried this too-it helps!)

*Always wipe away as much as possible with a DRY cloth before trying any other way to remove.

*OR...let the slime air dry and rub off between your hands or with a paper towel.

So there ya go...just in case any of you ever need to know how remove slug slime- I've done the research for you :) Happy Father's Day Todd & Seth- glad it was you and not me!

Todd's parents let the kids help return popcans (gross but much better than slug slime!) and then they gave them the money to go pick out 3 things each at the Dollar Store- a child's dream world...anything you want for only 1 dollar! Lucy and Carson had a hard time choosing just 3 while Graham found a ball right off and had a hard time wanting to find anything else- we had to convince him to pick out a pack of gum too (his new found addiction is Trident spearmint flavored gum...because it's green-his favorite color).

Overall we had a great weekend (forgot the camera-hence no pictures this post) and loved being with family- thanks for the entertainment everyone!!

Great slime tips! I remember stepping on a slug on time in high school. I don't remember how I got that nasty slime off my foot. Gross!
